Matthew joined Owens and Associates in May 2021 as a Law Clerk whilst completing his Practical Legal Training, before being admitted as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland in September 2021.
Matthew completed his secondary education at St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace, and studied at James Cook University in Townsville. Matthews’s time in North Queensland assisted him in broadening his cultural awareness.
Matthew has always been passionate about criminal law, completing work experience in the Chambers of leading Criminal Barristers in Brisbane from a young age. During his final two years at university, he worked as a Law Clerk in one of Townsville’s leading Criminal Law firms.
Since being admitted as a solicitor, Matthew has personally appeared on:
- Magistrates Court bail applications
- Work License applications
- Domestic violence applications
- Committal hearings
- Magistrates, District & Supreme Court mentions
Matthew also instructs counsel regularly in higher court matters on a regular basis including:
- District & Supreme Court sentences
- Breach of suspended sentence hearing
- Supreme Court bail applications
Matthew personally appears in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Court on a daily basis.
Matthew has worked closely with Principal Andrew Owens throughout his time at the firm. He has developed a particular interest in Drug, Property and Violence offences.
